Introducing our new program for children 2.5 to 3.5 years of age who are ready for the next step in organized group fun! This program will be a five day a week morning program that will run from September 2011 through June 2012.
*Class size: We will continue to operate with just five children per day. There will be two adults, a head teacher and an assistant. Studies have shown that small class size is extremely beneficial to children this age. They are able to get more one on one attention from caregivers and benefit from small group socialization where they can actively participate in group activities. This is not always true in a class of 20 children.
*Daily Schedule: Our morning program will run from 9am to 12:30pm. We will have a set daily routine starting with drop-off at 9am, circle time at 9:30 and ending with lunch from 12 to 12:30pm. Our daily schedule will include lots of fun and engaging activities like movement/yoga, morning snack, park, creative arts and story time.
*Weekly Schedule: Some of the activities that we will be adding once a week or every other week will be..
+Trips to the library to select several books to read relating to the theme we are working on.
+Once weekly cooking activity.
+We will also have a "specials" teacher come in from outside and teach the children a subject. Ex. Spanish, music or theatre.
*Classroom: We will have stations that incorporate pretend play, manipulatives, block area etc. We will also use our back room for cooking, lunch/snack time and creative arts. This will allow us more room to play in the front area. We will continue to use the yard for our "green" activities, sandbox/water table.
*Model: We will use the Bank Street model to structure our curriculum and themes. We feel strongly about this model because it is play based and puts a strong emphasis on socialization. To read more about Bank Street visit their website at www.bankstreet.edu.
